Symphony In Style

Photobucket

As everything needed to be said about The Symphony event have already been written in several Dubai fashion blogs like ages ago (well the event happened last Thursday) so in fashion time frame I'm completely obsolete already.

My evening did not start that well - late, alone (my friend ditched me), my best friend birthday to attend right after, my name not on the list (had to find an ID in my tiny little evening bag while Louise Nichol from HB was waiting behind...) well they did warn us, it was an 'invite'only' event.

But it got better and better, 1.the concentration of stylish ladies, 2. the availability of the designers, 3. the great atmosphere, 4. the cupcakes, 5. the fun charity auction, 6. the cupcakes, 7. the shoes (omg the shoes), 8. the cupcakes, etc... well i think you got the point, I did not regret my 45 minutes late to my friend birthday (dont kill me if you read this pleeeease)..

Number 15. it was the day I finally got to meet Confashions from the blog Confashions from Kuwait.

Well, we spent some time together (we were both alone), she teached me all about The City series, the name of all designers, and she even introduced me to Erin Fetherston like they were old buddies, I must say she is the sweetest.

I will let you read her fabulous review about the event, she says it all + she did not forget her camera like me... arrrgggggg

bisous

Art Fashion

Photobucket

You remember the first time I told you about The Empty Quarter ? Well since then, the photography art gallery became one of the hot spot in town for culture.

Don't miss the latest exhibition starting from September 14th called : Fashion, the story of a lifetime - with simulatenously a celebration of most iconic fashion photographers like Lilian Bassman, Norman Parkinson, William Klein, Albert Watson etc... through mix of vintage & modern prints + showcase of amazing vintage dresses from Parveen Shaath's private collection (a true fashionista collector!).

Le Monde d'Ines

I seriously love the freshness, the humility and the joy that communicate a young fashion designer. They made me (re)believe on the fundamental of fashion.
And Zeina Sultani is the perfect example; designer of Ines, line of clothing and ballerinas, she truly is an inspiration. I recently attended the launch of her summer 2010 collection @The Empty Quarter gallery in DIFC and finally got to meet her - she is a breath of fresh air...

I was seduced by her romantic, pure feminity, sensuality, Parisian elegance style – very Sofia Coppola's Virgin Suicides of kind of thing – It is all about simplicity (white t-shirt + short + flats Combo) in refined material (silk cotton. Dominated by pure white and pastels colors (hot this spring), with her signature bows that delicately stamped each one of her designs. One word: Charming.
It was French Riviera at the Empty Quarter, a particular attention to details; bouquet of lavender, sand, shellfish all over the gallery and even Truffaut’s masterpiece movie Jules & Jim projected on the background. Very charming.

Sartori Sartori arrives in Galleries Lafayette

If you love fashion and read magazines you must have heard about this new hot local brand in town called Sartori Sartori.

I'm very proud to say that my dear friend Debi Simcox is behind it, she is the creative designer. What I never told you about my friend Debi?? I really have to tell you everything about her soon, she deserves a whole post about herself, she's just fabulous!!!

Anyway, I let you imagine how excited I was when she told me that Galleries Lafayette will be launching the latest Sartori Sartori collection!

Now i let you imagine my reaction when she asked me to model for the launch event... Meeeee??? huh are you sure????????? Me walking straight on a runway front of a strangers in super-high-heels...???
Then she corrected me: ' i know babe you'd be perfect for it but huh it's not a catwalk show, for catwalk i called pro model... it's a showcase of the clothing line anyway you'll be fabulous! '

huh huh fair enough... anyway I didn't hesitate long, 'of course i'll do it!!'

I just adore her work, seriously the evening dresses are to die for!!!

Enough exclamation point, guys if you would like to attend this fabulous exclusive event tomorrow, check out the latest SS line, meet the wonderful designer and make fun of me doing whatever i'll be doing... send an email to info@sartorisartori.com to get an invitation.

hope to see you tomorrow and wish me good luck!

Crazy (Non)Socialite Life

Even if the news is not hot from the oven, (I have so much going on recently that I don’t even have time to eat those days), just crazy, anyhow I still wanted to post a little something about a few events I went to this month, I tell you why;

1. because when something fashion happen in town I have the duty to report
2. because I told you already I’m not a party girl so when I drag my lazy person outside I better tell the whole world
3. it’s my blog and I can write whatever I want
4. I got the privilege to be invited and this deserve a note
5. Social events are the perfect reflect of the fashion scene evolution

When I attend events like the one thrown by Balmain, the local designer Aiisha Ramadan or again the new hot spot Mojo Gallery; I don’t see Dubai as ‘emerging market’ anymore but as future capital of fashion. I feel that people are more open-minded, curious, adventurous, and tolerant than before when it comes to fashion.

Glam Glam Glam

I received the invitation the day before, a little last minute I agree, but I think I was a last minute invitee (how cares its fine I’m not sensitive), anyway when I checked it I read the following;

Balmain (cool) blablabla Al Quoz (arrgggggggg) blablabla Pioneering lifestyle event (hmmmmm really??) blablabla

It’s not the first time that I see this kind of promiscuous announcement that is (very) rarely achieved.
But I don’t know this time I had a good intuition, maybe because it was Balmain… I don’t know, I was just scared to be disappointed.
Even if I was not in the mood to socialize a drink in a hand pretending to have the best time and to be in the most interesting conversation with someone I didn’t know 6 minutes earlier..
(Really not in the mood especially that I had a soiree cheese fondue waiting for me at home!!)
But for you, dear readers, I decided to go few minutes to check it out ;-)
-
-
Once arrived (after a good 16 minutes lost in Al Quoz, like you know how to read a map!!) I was straight away intrigued: a factory look-a-like gallery (Carbon 12), loud music, FW09 runway show projection, glitter, the iconic outfits with the infamous boots showcases, the unveiling of the new Evian bottle designed by Paul Smith and bunch of trend-setters at the entrance door (hummmm).
-

I wore an oversized blazer, a dress, my eternal Chloe boots and my new Chloe bag (I’ll tell you all about it soon) and I’m casual but neither under or over-dressed (very good sign), there was NO DRESS CODE! (wouhouuuuu)!!
I have spotted a lot of Balmain style obviously, skinny washed away jeans and shoulder jacket, but also a lot of originality like a funky flower harem pants, leopard pair of shoes (by a uber-trendy-guy) etc ect… beautiful (unusual) crowd and very cool atmosphere!

That night was a breeze of fresh air, totally glamorous, completely Balmain and you were right a pioneering lifestyle event!!

J’en veux encore!! *

Tomorrow Aiisha Ramadan and her love affair.

*I want more
